About Our Ambulatory Care Program

The purpose of this residency is to prepare the trainee with the necessary skills to excel as an Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Specialist. At this ASHP-accredited residency program, the resident will have opportunities to learn in a variety of practice environments, including pharmacist-managed pharmacotherapy clinics, family medicine / internal medicine clinics, cardiology clinics, anticoagulation clinics, telehealth medicine, and population health management. The resident will gain experience with chronic disease management under a collaborative practice agreement for commonly encountered disease states such as diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, asthma, COPD, smoking cessation, and anticoagulation. The resident will also be actively involved with educational and medication management presentations to patients, providers, and staff in ambulatory clinics. Additionally, the resident will have opportunities to assist with the training and education of pharmacy students and PGY1 Pharmacy Residents.

Program Structure & Information

  • The longitudinal block format of this program allows the resident to continuously build upon their clinical skills and establish meaningful relationships with patients throughout the year.

    • Anticoagulation Clinic

    • PODS Pharmacotherapy Clinics

    • Cardiology Clinic

    • Ambulatory Care Practice Management

    • Research Project

    The resident will also gain exposure to unique ambulatory practice environments in these required block learning experiences:

    • Population Health with Accountable Care Organization (ACO)

    • Pharmacotherapy (Specialty) Clinic

    • Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Precepting (4-6 weeks depending on learner’s rotation duration)

  • Based on professional interests, the resident will have the opportunity to choose elective experiences for the last 12 weeks of the residency year.

    • Advanced rotation of any of the required rotations

    • Infectious Disease (HIV/Hep C Clinic)

    • Indianapolis block consisting of PODS + Cardiology + Family Medicine Clinics (2-12 weeks depending on resident’s availability to relocate to Indianapolis for the rotation)

    • Annual Salary: ~$49,400

    • 10 days PTO, in addition to the following Holidays: July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Memorial Day

    • Teach PharmD students and PGY1 residents on rotation

    • Complete Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program (Optional)

    • Complete CPR Healthcare Provider Certification

The resident must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and is required to be licensed in Indiana by August 1st. The resident will also need to provide the graduation certificate from an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program during orientation in July.
